Mathlouma
Mathlouma was conceived as a forum to discuss so-called "honor crimes" based on a project carried out by the Information and Research Center of the King Hussein Foundation (IRC) and jointly funded by the European Union and the IRC, with the objective of removing the word "honor" from crimes committed in its name, and changing the traditional mindset in Jordanian society regarding such crimes.
The site illustrates the activities that have taken place within this project, including the conferences, round table discussions with stakeholders, and awareness sessions across the Kingdom.
It makes accessible the study on so-called "honor crimes" conducted by the IRC, in cooperation with Al-Mafraq Center for Development and the Jordan Center for Social Research.
In addition to the comprehensive study, this site provides an insight into real-life stories involving victims and perpetrators of crimes that took place in the name of honor in Jordan from 2000 to 2009. It also lists related legislation and statistics on these crimes, in addition to relaying similar experiences in other parts of the world. It is hoped that this site becomes an open forum for civilized discussion on this social phenomenon.
